A rich history is built over time. shaped by the people, events, and values that have carried a community forward. It reflects years of dedication, growth, and transformation. When we speak of a strong legacy with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, we honor the lasting impact of those who came before us: their faith, their sacrifices, their leadership, and their vision for the future.
In 1920 a temporary school building was purchased and was named “Antioch” by Mother Addie Dukes, Rev. Gaines was the elected Pastor.
In 1922 Rev. J.S. Pattern was elected and purchased the 1st piece of property at 4219 Selby. Over a 30-year period significant growth and transition continued.
Growth & Transition (1933–1942)
· Rev. J. H. Sharp – Led during financial hardship; church rented property and later excavated the basement at 4311 Selby
· Rev. R. L. Robinson – Oversaw completion of the basement church and relocation
· Rev. Perkins – Served approximately four months
· Rev. U. S. Goldsby – Period of spiritual and numerical growth
Expansion Era (1942–1950)
· Rev. J. S. Arnold– Served nine years; church finances strengthened and lots were purchased; construction began at present site before his departure.
Antioch Missionary Baptist Church occupied 1083 East Stewart Street, Later In 1951 Rev Lawrence W. Pryor was elected as Pastor.
· Reorganized the church spiritually and administratively
· Eliminated significant debt
· Membership grew from approximately 175 to over 2,500
· Strengthened auxiliaries: Sunday school, vacation bible school, choir expansions,
Modern Development (1976 – 2018)
Dr. Lewis Randolph was appointed as the 15th Pastor of Antioch.
· Continued expansion and renovations of the Lewis Randolph fellowship hall
· The Jane Lewis Randolph scholarship fund
· Maintained, and grew Membership
· Filled the Moderator role with the Great Lakes Baptist District Association
Advancing to the Future ( 2019 – 2015)
Rev. Christopher Taylor was appointed to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church after the retirement of Pastor Lewis Randolph; where he increased technology creating the ability for Antioch to have online presence, with virtual services; You tube, and Facebook platforms. He focused on the youth ministry and growing the church with a heart for the next generation. His leadership created spaces where young people felt seen, valued, and encouraged to deepen their faith. Through his vision, the church became a place where families could grow together and where future leaders were nurtured with care and purpose.
